Fencing repairs – panels and posts

However, if your fencing seems a little shaky, replacing a post is quickly done, and existing panels are re-attached to prevent further damage. Wooden Fencing

We thought it might help to understand a few of the different kinds of fencing available.

Panel Fencing

Panel fencing uses posts and panels that are prefabricated. Fencing panels are available in various styles and are easy to install compared with a close board fence. Panels are simply screwed or nailed to the posts, and replacing a damaged panel is a simple job.

Panels are very versatile, and they are available in different heights, usually 3ft, 4ft, 5ft and 6ft and are 6ft wide. You can have overlap, single slatted, double slatted, hit and miss etc. We can give you advice as to which is best for your particular garden.

Panels require little maintenance, and generally, a coat of wood preservative is all they will need every two/three years.

Post and Rail Fencing

This type of fencing is an economical solution if you have a long stretch of land which needs fencing off. It is often used for agricultural fencing and consists of posts that support 2 or 3 rails. It is a good boundary fence rather than a security barrier.

Close board and arris rail fencing

A close board fence is made from vertical boards that partially overlap. They create a solid private boundary and are an excellent choice if you are looking for a security fence.

The arris rail is a triangular wooden beam used in the construction which runs horizontally along the back of the fence panel, giving it strength and longevity. This triangular rail also makes climbing the fence difficult and is an added deterrent for intruders.

Close board fencing is also specially treated, and the arris rail ensures that water runs off rather than remaining on the panels.

Acoustic Fencing

Acoustic Fencing is known for lowering street noise, neighbours, and traffic. These panels are reasonably airtight and solid; they are designed to reflect the sound back rather than letting it pass through.

Typically, a 1.5-metre-high acoustic fence will reduce noise by approximately 5 decibels, and it is possible to achieve an even greater reduction.
